Growing Futures
Anna and Beki have been working on the Growing Futures Project and have now arranged to work in three different schools. Lydney, Bream and Parkend.
In Lydney we are working with years Three, four, five and six. Each child comes in for about an hour a fortnight, fifteen at a time. Lydney has a huge garden with magnificent raised beds and a well set up Polytunnel. The garden has never been fully used by the school but now we are planning that it will become a vision of flowers and vegetables that the children can feel proud of. Before easter holidays the potatoes were planted, two of the beds were weeded (another six to go!) and the polytunnel is full of seed trays that with luck will have germinated by the time school starts again.
Parkend School is much smaller, we are spending 2 hours a week there with class three, years, four five and six. We have planted garlic, peas, radish and potatoes with seedlings being looked after elsewhere.
Bream school is a similar size to Lydney and we will start there after Easter holidays, a lot of tlc needed but bringing colour and pride to the front of the school will be a real bonus.
