Weekend of Events
We've all had a fantastic weekend of outreach events. Saturday at Cinderford Medical Centre where a local seed swap community event took place & we were invited to run a stall.
Sunday there was a Foresters Forest Celebration - almost at the end now - looking back over 5 years of volunteering and connecting local people with heritage in the Forest of Dean.
We are one of the few projects to have an ongoing legacy once the 5 year landmark fund finishes - what a success its been. We started without a base, running 16 workshops a year in heritage crafts, and edible forest skills.
2 years ago we also took over the New Leaf Social Forestry project which saw us taking on Kensley Sheds and giving us a base. We now reach around 150 local adults and youths, running our community engagement sessions 5 days per week, as well as the ongoing public workshops at weekends!
Over the past 12 months we have been successful in winning £300k worth of project funding (to be spent over the next 3-5 years) and are currently seeking core funding.
Join us in thanking Forestry England and the Foresters Forest funding for getting us started! Their exhibition is on display upstairs at the Dean Heritage Centre until December.
Come and see us at Food Showcase event at Speech House Hotel, in 2 weeks time where we will have 9 of our crew and craftspeople offering demo's and tasters (and a taste of roadkill stew!!)
