‘Edible Forest Skills’ Autumn workshops 2017
The ‘Edible Forest Skills’ series of workshops are part of the Foresters’ Forest’ programme, a landscape partnership funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund. This is our first series of workshops, part of an exciting a 5 year programme of delivering training in Edible forest gardening.

DESIGN A FOREST GARDEN / ORCHARD with Scott Baine.
An introduction on learning how to design and implement a forest garden in your own garden or on a community scale, including looking at local heritage variety fruit trees.
Saturday 16th September. 10am – 4pm. Angus Buchanan recreation ground, Coleford.
MAKING HERBAL MEDICINE with Jess Lucas.
Learn from a local herbalist about treating ailments from the plants that grow all around us in the forest, and make a medicine for the winter to keep you healthy. Including a foraging walk.

PRESERVING with Anne Harley.
Learn how to make great Jams and chutneys with ‘Anne the Jam’! Bring along any excess fruit and vegetables you have harvested and see what exciting preserves can be made.
Saturday 7th October. 10am – 4pm. The Salvation Army, Broadwell.
MUSHROOM FORAGING – Tim Lawrence & Kirsty Philbrick.
Go on a foraging walk and learn all about the common, edible and medicinal mushrooms that grow in our forest. This will involve being outdoors most of the day.
Saturday 21st October. 10am – 3.30pm. Beechenhurst.
PROCESS DEER AND SMALL GAME with Scott Baine.
Learn how skin and butcher deer and small game.
Saturday 28th October. 10am – 4pm. Dean field studies centre, Parkend.
FERMENTING FOODS with Scott Baine.
Learn how to preserve foods through the ancient art of fermentation.
Saturday 18th November. 10am – 4pm. Yorkley community centre.
(A sliding scale- pay what you can afford! minimum of £10).
We also have a limited number of free places to give away, get in touch if you would like to do the course but cannot afford £10.
Summer Green woodworking courses 2016

Design a Forest Garden and Permaculture Orchard.
Learn how to design and implement an edible perennial space from a micro forest garden to a community orchard, including a look at the history of orchards and local heritage variety fruit trees.
Saturday 30th January. 10am-4pm. Berry Hill.
Pruning fruit trees.
Learn how to prune fruit trees to ensure healthier and productive trees.
Saturday 20th February. 10am-4pm. Ruardean.
Propagation: learn how to graft your own fruit trees.
Learn about different root stock and how to graft your chosen variety fruit tree onto it, and take your tree home to plant!
Saturday 12th March. 10am-4pm. Newnham.
Planting: learn how to plant fruit trees and fruit bushes.
Learn how to protect and care for your trees, including mulching and making aerated compost teas.
Sunday 13th March. 10am-4pm. Ruardean.
learn how to tap birch trees for sap. Including its uses and making a tasty fermented drink.
Saturday 19th March. 10am-4pm. Parkend.
