Growing Futures
Growing Futures provides schools with the opportunity to educate and develop edible landscapes in their school grounds. Funded by Thirty Percy, we are offering to spend one day a week in your school for the next two years.
Our aim is to inspire wonder and spark an on going interest in the natural world and how we interact with it. We will enable children to experience working in a garden and the satisfaction of growing their own food; to create the whole cycle from garden to plate for the children we work with.
We are currently running Home Education sessions from our community permaculture allotment every Wednesday morning. Here, young people have had the chance to experience the food and knowledge that is provided to them through working within edible landscapes.
Alined with National Curriculum, pupils will benefit from having hands on experience of growing and continue to refine their skills in areas such as science, history and STEM education. We shall encourage the young people to learn about heritage plants, discuss the future of our food and experiment with growing methods. They will be encouraged to collect data through noticing patterns, classifying and comparing a variety plants throughout the year.
Unearth your schools growing potential and encourage young people to fall in love with the edible world around them.
