BA HONS / ITEC / VTCT

Hi there, thanks for coming to check out my bio…

It has been a rollercoaster of a journey founding and running The Rewild Project 10 years ago, shortly after settling in The Forest of Dean to raise my son.

I’d been travelling for most of my adult life until then, and felt ready to create and pour my energy into sharing the skills I’d learned to help create a better world.

This project has become a huge part of me, and represents many of my passions and area’s of interest.

I’m going to use this space to tell you more about my journey, or journey’s to getting here and the direction I see us taking over the next few years!

Roots

I left the depressed ex coal mining town north of Nottinghamshire in the Midlands soon after i turned 17 to study.
Nothing much ever happened there, apart from football and pubs
- it was a very conventional upbringing and one I couldn’t wait to escape from!

Adventures & Studies

My degree was in Sport & Recreation Development at Leeds University, and I put my learning to good use
in my summers spent at an American ‘Camp for Obese Children’ and was later invited back to England to continue this work.

I soon discovered a passion for many adventure sports including rock climbing, cycling, mountaineering and wild camping which I funded with jobs such as a swimming pool lifeguard and bungee jumping instructor!

Eco Defense & Activism

Throughout my studies I became aware of the decimation of our eco systems in the name of progress and wanted to do something
to stop the irreversible damage for future generations.

I spent time on a number of protest camps, living in a tree house for 6 months,
working in non hierarchical autonomous groups,
living by anarchist principles:

  • Voluntary cooperation

  • Mutual aid

  • Direct action

I learned so much from these experiences - about working with people, taking action and decentralised decision making.

Travels & Skills

After university I after becoming more and more disillusioned with the current UK paradigms
I travelled to Canada to continue exploring, and searching for - something else…

And I found it!

I spent time with First Nations people, coming face to face with more decimation of indigenous peoples and ecosystems.

It was from some of these people I was first introduced to the idea of healing myself,
and decided to study studied Applied Neuro Somatic Therapy and Dao Yin.
I became a qualified bodyworker in 13 different healing modalities.

I also spent time snowboarding, and trainned in avolanche and outdoor winter survival techniques

More Wilderness Skills

After 6 years in Canada I had a taste for living close to nature, and somehow ended up travelling in Sweden and Norway,

I connected with the Sami peoples and joined a tribe of people living as our stone age ancestors did.

We lived all year round, through the extreme seasons of Scandinavia

deep in the forest, on the edge of a lake, hunting, trapping and cooking on fire.

This led to running gatherings and camps for people who wanted to find a way to detox from civilisation

This was the start of the ‘Rewilding’ movement
- it was always about people, and how they integrate into the landscape, rather than keeping them off the land!

Craft Skills

I became fascinated with the craft skills necessary to live lightly on the earth, craft skills our ancestors developed over milenia that have led us to evolving to our current systems.

This led to me signing up to a Swedish Handicrafts School to learn the ancient skill of Natural, Organic, hide tanning and leatherwork.

Return to UK

Who knows why I came back to the UK - but I did!

Soon after I supported my partner to birth our Son in a Yurt, in a friends woodland.

It was a beautiful moment and all of my bodywork and healing modalities were put to good use!

I have been fascinated with natural birth, and birthing outside of the system ever since.

The Rewild Project was originally set up to gain land as a collective, and bring together skilled craftspeople and land-workers,
to form a community of likeminded people.
