Spectrum Skills

Thanks to funding from NHS England The Rewild Project are running craft sessions once a month for young people with autistic traits.

It is our aim to provide a space for children, young people and their families to come and explore a range of craft skills. Each session will be a chance to learn a traditional craft skill taught by our specialist crafts tutors in a quiet, accepting and non pressurised environment.

These activities will include; stone carving, textiles, wood block printing and paper making. The young people will have the opportunity to bring home one of their creations after learning each of the crafts.

Families, including parents / carers and siblings are welcome to attend and stay throughout the session close by or onsite and timings have been chosen with this in mind so that families can attend and benefit too. This is an opportunity for families to connect through shared experiences and continue to establish a community.

The Rewild Project crew have a long history of forming relationships with people with additional needs both professionally and in their personal lives. We know first hand what a difference a safe, calm and creative space can make to peoples lives.

Please note, we do not require a formal diagnosis for the young person to partake in these events. If you have any additional questions or want to discuss your child’s needs further don’t hesitate in contacting us via email or phone. Contact info.

The Venue

This course is set at our off-grid woodland craft centre, Kensley Sheds, right in the heart of the beautiful Forest of Dean, situated on the famous Sculpture Trail, close to the Stained Glass Window and Wildlife Trust reserve ‘Woorgreen Lake’

Kensley Sheds is the home of our Social Forestry Project ‘New Leaf’. Here, local adults who are struggling with social issues come learn & practice new skills. We follow regenerative woodland management practices, to extract and process wood from disused Forestry England coppiced woodland. Here the wood is turned it into functional items, firewood and charcoal, giving people access to new careers and a sense of real community.

Kensley sheds has running water, a flushing disabled access toilet, onsite parking and is heated by wood-burner. You will be able to peruse our extensive library of eco / craft / alternative living books throughout the day.
