Want to make this Christmas extra special and environmentally friendly?
Join Amy and The Rewild Crew and create an artisan basket from rush (scirpus lacustris) that makes an ideal small foraging pouch or water bottle holder. This basket is a meaningful and unique present for your friends who are interested in foraging!
Cosy up by the fire at The Rewild Projects off-grid heritage crafts centre, drink home made mulled apple juice and create with like minded people.
About This Workshop
On this course we will be working with rush (scirpus lacustris), a beautifully soft natural material to weave with. We will learn some ancient techniques of cordage, plaiting and how to make a small rush foraging pouch with a strap. The pouch can be made in a variety of different shapes and can be used as a foraging basket, water bottle holder and much more! You will leave with a finished pouch and the skills to make another in the future.
On The Day
On the day of the workshop we invite to you arrive half an hour early so you can grab a cup of something warm, and get to know Kensley Sheds and The Rewild crew.
The workshop will start at 10:30am where we will invite you to design your very own rush basket with the guidance of weaving expert, Amy.
After a short comfort break and demonstration, you will then start to create your designs.
We will break for a nutritious vegan lunch, with ingredients grown from our permaculture allotment at 12:45pm . Our kitchen follows pay what you think it is worth principles.
After lunch you will continue to weave your baskets with Amy’s support. Amy will also guide you in the art of cordage making to design a lovely strap for your baskets. By the end of the day you will have achieved a stunning rush basket that will make the perfect, personal Christmas gift.
At 4:30pm we will end our workshop and invite you to provide us with any feedback you may have, so we can continue to develop our courses to continue to inspire you in the future.
Please note that this workshop will be run at our off grid craft centre so make sure to wear weather appropriate clothing and sturdy shoes!

After the craftspeople are paid, and costs are covered we put any profits back in to the community with our ‘weekday sessions for disadvantaged groups’ a lifeline for many local people who we pick up each day and bring to Kensley Sheds and others sites to build community, skills, and share nutritious hot, locally produced food.
