Home education sessions

The Rewild Project have been working with the home education community for a number of years and part of our team is made up of long term home educators, un-schoolers and flexi-schoolers.

We understand the issues faced by home educators, such as lack of financial support from government, high number of additional educational needs in the community and need of respite, community and support for parents and children.

We have run a number of funded and semi-funded Home Education groups over the last few years - with funders such as Forester’s Forest, Thirty Percy and CPRE.

We have a dedicated crew to support both parents and children with indoor and outdoor activities ranging from edible forest skills, to therapeutic and exciting heritage crafts skills for both the adults and the children to engage with and enjoy together.

Here are some of the offerings available at the moment:

Rekindle Youth - CALS Qualifications Course

Starting this September we are developing level 1 & 2 qualification course in Crafts and Land Skills for young people. With the aim of developing both heritage craft skills and rural land skills into viable apprenticeship schemes. Mondays we are working with Home Educators.

Age Guide is 14+ although we are taking some younger home educators too.

Growing Futures

Is our scheme to work with schools developing their outdoor areas into productive, low maintenance edible perennial, forest garden areas and create a complete science curriculum around spending time outdoors. We will be using our Permaculture Allotment site at Noxon Farm to run a weekly session for Home Educators.

Spectrum Skills

The Home Education population across the country has a higher than average number of Special Education Needs and neuro diversity; diagnosed and not. This may be because of problems arisen in schools and needs not being met, or parents realising the constrictive school system would not suit their child’s disposition, or nuero divergent families just thinking outside of the box from the word go!

We have managed to secure funding from NHS England to provide craft sessions specially designed for young people with autistic traits. It doesn’t matter whether they are diagnosed or not - the sessions will be small groups and families can stay with them.

Holiday & After School Clubs

These are funded by Department for Education during summer, winter, and Easter Holidays, to ensure young people have access to a hot meal and wholesome activities. There are 2 funding streams - one for Free School Meal families, and one for open access.

We will continue to look for funding for half terms, and to start an after school / afternoon club too.
