Community Juicing Day 30th October 2022

This coming weekend we are running our first community juicing day at Kensley.

Come along on Sunday 30th 12-3pm to see a traditional press in action or have a go at juicing yourself! Listen to a talk on making your own apple cider vinegar and take home some delicious organic juice. It's completely free to attend and you're welcome to come along even if you have no apples to bring. We'll be taking donations on the day to go towards fitting the wood burner at our craft centre, Kensley Sheds.

The juicing equipment is on loan from Benthyg Monmouth - a volunteer-led library of things. Check out their catalogue: monmouthshire.benthyg.cymru/

The Abundance team have continued harvesting throughout October, collecting almost 500kgs of fruit again this month. Some interesting finds: as well as 'Christmas apples', which look like russets, we harvested some quinces which were excitedly shared amongst volunteers along with recipe ideas. The rest were given to one resident of Berry Hill who made quince jelly to give back to the local community.

We have made more connections with the local community and now support Coleford's Sixteen Community Cafe and the food share they run there. It was lovely to have been invited to The Asha Centre and to Ragmans Lane Farm to harvest some of their fruit trees too. The gardens at Asha were stunning and it was a pleasure to see a snippet into organic farm life at Ragmans. The pace of harvesting is starting to slow as we come towards the end of the season but we still have a couple of harvest days left: Thurs 27th Oct, Tues 1st Nov & Weds 9th.

If you would like to help out and have the chance to take some apples home with you at the end of the harvest then please get in touch: abundancescheme@therewildproject.com
